Jay Cutler: His Journey From MA Kid To Mr.Olympia

If you are passionate about bodybuilding yourself or you are just a fan, you are likely to be familiar with bodybuilding sensation Jay Cutler. He became a sensation in his field because he started at a young age and was relentless in his hard work and dedication to his goals. He started training when he was a senior in high school, but started building his strength as early as age 11 when he worked at his brother’s concrete construction business.

Even though he was on the road to bodybuilding success at the age of 18, Cutler still worked hard on his education. He graduated from community college in 1993 with a degree in criminal justice because he wanted to become a corrections officer in a maximum-security prison. He started competing in bodybuilding competitions after being inspired by personal trainer Marcos Rodriguez and ended up winning second place in a Gold’s Gym bodybuilding championship in 1992. A year later, he already got his first overall win at the NPC Iron Bodies Invitational in the Teenage and Men’s Middleweight category.

He continued to climb his ladder of success in the 90’s by winning the NPC Teen Nationals title in the same year and won the NPC US Tournament of Champions in 1995 in the Men’s Middleweight and overall categories. He earned his IFBB pro card in 1996 when he won first place in the NPC Nationals in the heavyweight category. He set his sights on the Mr. Olympia competition in 1999 where he came in 14th place. This did not slow him down because he returned to the competition several times placing 8th in 2000 and 2nd in Mr. Olympia Rome in the same year. He went on to place 2nd in the competition in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005 before finally taking first place in 2006. During these years, he also won the Arnold Classic 3 times, as well as, the Ironman Pro Invitational, San Francisco Pro Invitational, the Dutch Grand Prix, the British Grand Prix, the Austrian Grand Prix, the Romanian Grand Prix, and the Dutch Grand Prix again in 2006. He went on to win Mr. Olympia again in 2007, 2009, and 2010.

On top of his success in bodybuilding competitions, he also starred in 9 bodybuilding DVDs from 2002 to 2013 and released a successful book titled CEO Muscle: Jay Cutler’s No-Nonsense Guide to Successful Bodybuilding. He is living proof that a person can achieve anything they set their minds to if they work hard and believe in themselves. Excelling in something as challenging as bodybuilding takes a special kind of dedication. It takes proper nutrition and an effective workout regimen just to reach a level high enough to be trained by professionals and the heart of a champion to achieve years of consistent success in the industry.
